How To: Get Your Medical Card in Massachusetts

Medical Marijuana in Massachusetts

In 2012, Massachusetts became the 18th state to allow patients to purchase, grow, and consume Cannabis.

The polls were in and 63% of voters approved of Question 3: The Massachusetts Medical Marijuana Initiative. Massachusetts had finally legalized Medical Marijuana.

With Medical & Recreational dispensaries popping up at every corner, Massachusetts residents find shopping for Cannabis as easy as it is for them to grab a coffee in the morning.

In 2021 The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission claimed to have licensed 908 Marijuana Establishments. These establishments included Cultivators, Product Manufacturers, Retailers, Independent Testing Laboratories, and more.

There are now over 100,000 certified Medical Marijuana cardholders in Massachusetts that can legally relieve their medical conditions using Cannabis products.

Although not approved by the FDA, the medical conditions that qualify Massachusetts residents for an MMJ Card include Cancer, Glaucoma, Depression, Anxiety, HIV/AIDS, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and many others.

Benefits of Becoming a Medical Patient

Although Recreational Cannabis is legal in the state of Massachusetts, having your very own Medical Marijuana card comes with a few advantages!

  • Save Money

Massachusetts prohibits sales tax for Medical Marijuana patients.

That means you’re no longer paying copious amounts in taxes and keeping more money in your pocket! Medical patients have reported saving between 20% to 30% in tax fees.

Who doesn’t love saving money!?

Many dispensaries offer special discounts and “first-time” patient rewards.

UpTop Medical Cannabis Dispensary in Framingham, Massachusetts offers 30% OFF for First-Time Patients, 40% for second-time patients, and 50% for your third purchase!

  • Higher Doses

MA MMJ patients have access to higher potency products and exclusive menus.

While the Recreational side of dispensaries has purchase limits, the Medical does not.

With your legal MMJ Card you’ll have access to higher doses and greater quantities of flowers, concentrates, or edibles.

  • Legal Protection

Possessing a registered MMJ Card can help bring peace of mind.

Most importantly it can prevent consumers from excessive fines, employment issues, and possible imprisonment.

Note: Patients must maintain active certification and registration with the Medical Use of Marijuana Program in order to be protected for medical use of marijuana under Massachusetts law.

  • Safe Lab-Tested Products

Every Cannabis user has (or knows someone who has) once gotten a strange, questionable-looking bag.

When shopping at legal dispensaries the safety & quality concerns are reduced greatly. Products from legal Cannabis shops are required to be thoroughly lab tested to ensure quality, potency, and safety.

Agencies have even started establishing quantity limits, eliminating pesticides, heavy metals, microbes, and mycotoxins.
